A long time ago, I read the bestseller book from Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich. I am pretty sure that when he wrote it in 1938, he never thought it would still be widely used in 2016!
The reason it is back on my radar is because a friend of mine mentioned that the company she works for uses a new version of that book as the basic values of their company. The new version (2015) is called Think and Grow Rich for Women and it is written by Sharon Lechter with the approval of the Napoleon Hill Group. You can imagine that in 1938, the book was highly aimed at the successful man so I love the idea of re-reading it with examples of the success of women.
Now, let me remind you of the principles of that book. Napoleon Hill had outlined 13 steps plus a principle of how to deal with FEAR. All but one made it to the new version of the book.
Desire: In order to achieve your financial goals, you have to have a burning desire. You have to want it so badly, that you cannot think of anything else.
Faith: You have to have unwavering faith in your self, your abilities, and your capacity to execute your goals. And that means; if you fail, you get right back up and continue.
Autosuggestion: In today’s world, we talk a lot about beliefs, affirmations and positive thinking. It is apparently not that new! Use your internal dialogue to help you achieve your goals. And make sure to use all your senses when you do auto suggestion.
Specialized Knowledge: Learn your craft and keep learning more.
Imagination: Think outside the box.
Organized Planning: SMART your goal: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Results-focused, and Time- bound.
Decision: Make a decision. It sounds so simple but really sometimes it is not. When you find yourself procrastinating or in doubt, the best thing to do is take some time for actions and decisions, every day.
Persistence: Never give up. If you have gone through all the previous steps, you know you have a desire, you have faith, you have aligned your internal language, you have the knowledge, you have the imagination, then plan is set and you are making decisions. Keep doing and tweak when necessary.
Power of the Master Mind: Napoleon Hill defines it as: “coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose”. Don’t think you are alone. A lot of mistakes that people who start their own consulting or coaching business make is to be alone. You will not accomplish great things alone. Create a master mind group or join one that already exists.
The mystery of Sex transmutation: no longer exists in the new book.
The Subconscious Mind: We have all this untapped power, the subconscious mind. It works day and night and uses all 5 senses. Learn how to make it work for you and not against you.
The Brain: What is your Brain and how does it work. If you want more detailed information on the Brain, I suggest another great book by Dr. Amen: Change your Brain, Change your Life.
The sixth Sense: In order words; your intuition and your gut. Often we do not listen to them when in fact, they always steer us in the right direction.
How to Outwit the 6 ghosts of fear: Poverty, criticism, ill health, loss of love of someone, old age and death. Still true today.
Whether you choose the new version for Women or the original version, this book is a must read. In the next few blogs, I will go in detail on these steps and how they have impacted my life and my success. It is also available in French.
